Best Season for a Cappadocia Wedding Photoshoot: A Month-by-Month Guide

Couples who have not fixed a date yet almost always ask us the same thing first: “Which month should we come?” There is no single right answer — it depends on what you care about most. A sky full of balloons? A morning mild enough to move freely in your gown? Or snow on the fairy chimneys that nobody else has in their wedding album? We are a wife-and-husband team who shoot in Göreme in every season, so here is the calendar seen through a wedding dress.

The honest part first: nobody can promise balloons

Whether the balloons go up on a given morning is decided by the aviation authority shortly before take-off, and wind is usually the reason when they don't. They fly on most mornings for much of the year, but anyone who guarantees balloons on your date is promising something outside their control. We plan your session around the dawn light and treat the balloons as a gift if they come.

Season by season

If your dates are flexible

Aim for mid-September to late October or late April to early June. In those weeks balloons fly on most mornings, it is warm enough to stand in a light gown without counting the seconds, and the sun has not turned harsh yet. They also overlap with wedding season, so they are the first weeks to fill in our calendar — message us a few months ahead if you can.

Summer: early starts, empty viewpoints

July and August are the strongest months for balloons, but dawn comes very early and our summer hotel pick-ups can be around half past four. The reward is empty viewpoints, clean light and a finished shoot before the heat arrives. Bring the suit jacket for the photos; nobody wants to wear it in the car.

Winter: snow, a white dress and fewer balloons

In January and February, wind and snow keep the balloons grounded more often. What you get instead is a white gown against snow-covered rock — a frame that looks nothing like every other Cappadocia wedding photo. Pack a warm coat for between shots, thick socks and gloves, and we will keep each set short so you can warm up in between.

If your date is already set

Wedding and honeymoon dates rarely move, and that is fine. If you are staying for several mornings, we check the forecast together and pick the best one. For grounded mornings there is always somewhere to go: a cave hotel terrace, the glow of a lantern shop, a carpet shop full of colour — and in the evening the wild horses, which have nothing to do with the wind.
